Signs Your Gutters Need Replacement

One of the most overlooked parts of your home may be the gutters; yet, your home’s gutters are important to the functionality of your home. But how do you know if your gutters need to be repaired or replaced?

  • There is standing water outside your home – Standing water could mean that there’s blockage in either the downspout or the gutter itself. If standing water remains after the blockage has been removed, it’s likely you’ll need new gutters.
  • The gutters are fractured or cracked – A fracture or crack in your gutter means it to be replaced right away. Not only will the crack or fracture grow, but these weaknesses will allow precipitation to directly harm your home’s facade. The larger the fractures or cracks get, the more severe the damage will be to your home.
  • The gutters are rusting – If your gutter is exposed to heavy rain for an extended amount of time, it may accumulate rust. If you see your gutters beginning to rust, make sure the rusted section is replaced before it shatters or breaks.
  • The gutters are sagging – If your gutter is pulling or bowing away from your home, its brackets could be loose. However, if you find that the drainage has been untouched, it could mean there’s property damage in addition to gutter breakage.
  • Your home’s paint is peeling – If the paint on your home is starting to peel, it’s usually due to the home being subjected to constant moisture. Although most modern paint can withstand damage from the elements, paint peeling may be due to a flawed gutter system.
  • Nails or screws on the ground – If you’re finding nails or screws on the ground close to your home’s foundation, your gutters may be coming loose. To keep your gutter system secure, you’ll need to replace the section that’s loose to avoid larger problems.
  • There’s water damage on the home – If your home is experiencing water damage or discoloration near the downspout or gutters, you should get your gutters replaced or inspected before any further damage occurs.
  • You see gaps in your gutter sections – If your gutter is suffering from large gaps, it’s important to cut them out and remove them entirely. Then, immediately replace them to prevent any further damage to your home.

Since the examples above are only a few of the issues you could have with your gutters, it’s important to have them inspected as often as possible. Thankfully, Perfect Exteriors is here to do so! Contact us today for more information!
